South Park Animation Thing

(Sorry about the bad quality, might reupload)
In 3DS Max we traced over the outline of the different character parts with the line tool then extruded slightly and added mapping using UVW maps and the gizmo setting. Extra parts like blinking eyes and different mouth shapes were also added and mapped. To animate the characters to the 'Hey Chef' sound clip I added the clip to the dope sheet and added a visibility channel to the different eye and mouth shapes to get the effect of blinking and to get the characters to appear like they're talking. To do this I selected both shapes then had it so that when one is in use the other is invisible. Because the character based on myself has long hair and glasses it was very difficult to animate since they both cover the eyes and the hair goes over the shoulders. If I did this again I would maybe have the glasses and hair as a separate object attached to the head and saved the clothes before adding hair.

3DS Max Figure

Basic 3D model of a male figure. I got the basic shapes by using cylinders for the head, arm, leg and torso and lining them up to the reference image, adjusting the vertexes to match the shape. For the head I added more vertexes so that it would retain its shape more when turbo smoothed. When finished I deleted sections from the torso and the arm, leg and head so that they could be bridged to the body so it would be just one object. After this I mirrored the object so it had two arms and legs, then applied a turbo smooth.

Creepy Rabbit

Concept for a creepy rabbit. I started out by sketching out the basic form of the rabbits skeleton because I wasn't sure how I was going to approach this and was thinking of making it somewhat skeletal at the time. I made the legs longer to make it seem weird and unnatural, and also stretched out the tail though this has made it look slightly kangaroo-like. I decided against the tail and used a more familiar rabbit like tail so that it was more obvious its supposed to be a rabbit. I added shape to the bone structure and then added shading on another layer and details like the eye, teeth, spine and claws on another. I then added a colour layer making the rabbit brown with a white tail, then added small amounts of green in areas to give it a mutated, diseased like feel. I also coloured the eye red like an albino rabbit. On top of this I added a fur texture and then added tufts of fur using a small semi-transparent brush in areas to give a moth-eaten effect and to make the texture blend in better.

Space Marine

A space marine concept. Started by drawing the basic shape in black, then on a separate layer I outlined the main shapes in white as a guideline. After this I added shading then deleted the guideline layer and added details like the vest and air-tank. I then added a colour layer and a texture layer. I drew him a bit too short (5 heads tall, should of probably been around 6-7 tall).

Bench and Wall 3DS Max

Both textured with a bump map. I made the bench using rectangular polygons, some like the arms were turbosmoothed, to get a worn effect and I then applied mapping. After this I added a character with biped who would animate to walk over to the bench and sit down. I adjusted the height and direction of the character in biped mode to make sure they walked towards the bench and that they sat on the bench instead of hovering above it.

Sketches

Sketch of a landscape of trees and a volleyball net. The perspecitive is a little off as I didn't plan the sketch out using perspective first.

Here I drew a close up sketch of a small grassy plant. I added colour using green, yellow and pink coloured pencils.
In this pencil sketch I tried practising perspective by drawing the balconies of a building and tried to get a some shading in. In my opinon this could of turned out better.

Practice sketch of my hand. I got the basic shapes down first using ovals for each part of the hand then I sketched in the shape of the hand.

Sketch of a palm tree. Tried to get the texture of the bark in by using shading.

Quick Sketch

Here I drew a quick sketch of the image below, trying to match the colours to those in the original image. I planned to add more greenery from the trees in the background I didn't have time however so the sky overpowers the entire picture a bit

Fishing Lizard

For the Easter holiday assignment following a Youtube tutorial by Bobby Chiu.

First the sketch was set to 'Multiply' and a dark greyish-blue colour was set to fill on the layer below to use as a base. I then added the tones of the creature on a new layer.
Here on another new layer I added shadows and highlights as well as some tone on the floor.
For this stage I added a 'color' layer and added the basic colours of the image. After this I made a new layer for the skin detail showing lighter and darker parts of the skin and giving it more texture.
Here I added another layer, this one adding detail to the creatures scales and adding detail to the fish at the end of the rod, making the rod darker and adding in fingers. I also added some more highlights on its face
For this part I added some backlight onto the creature in the opposite direction to the shadows and highlights.
Because my version of Photoshop doesn't have the Curve adjustment layer like in the tutorial, I used a Levels layer instead. To try and get a similar lighting effect I slid the grey and white triangles a little to make the picture lighter without making it look too drained. I then filled the adjustment layer with black and lightened some more areas by painting white onto the layer. I also added more details such as nostrils, specks on the eyes, darker patches on its head and some more highlights and shading and added extra detail to the fish. To finish off the picture I then added more colour to the skin by painting over parts of it with bright yellow on very low opacity.

The finished image. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, the skin in particular :)

Bark Inspired Chameleon

For an assignment creating a creature inspired by tree bark. I drew this in Photoshop starting with the basic shape in black adding tone, then colour from the picture of bark I used. I then added the bark texture from the photo on the left on an overlay layer after removing colour and adjusting shadows and highlights.

On reflection I probably should of had the chameleon standing on some branches because the way I drew the feet and the addition of the shadow make it look like its floating :s

2D-3D Scene

Here I made a simple 3D tube using 3DS Max and added a brick mapping texture (ideally I should of made the texture smaller though) and then using the alpha channel pasted it into Photoshop and changed the opacity of the shadow so that matches the rest of the objects in the scene.

Pixel Hydrant and Robot

I made the fire hydrant in this pixel art scene using Photoshop, its slightly too tall however and I don't think the colours I used fit in with the rest of the scene. I made the robot by tracing over the original image and then adding lines to give it a more 3 dimensional feel. I think this is better sized and fits the scene better than the hydrant however perspective wise it doesn't match the scene.

Music Thing

Black and white digital painting of some kind of music themed knight-like character using brushes by Daarken, after watching a tutorial by Daarken where he makes a character picture. The picture is in black and white to get the basic tone and shape in, I might upload a coloured version of this at a later date.

Fishy

Drew this with biro, looks a bit like a koi fish but spinier. I messed up the scales slightly by changing the style, but because this was early on I don't think its too noticeable. The spine doesn't look quite right either. Otherwise this came out fairly well.

Nokia

This is a drawing of a Nokia 3410 phone. I might go over some of the lines using fine liner and add colour with watercolour paint to improve this picture.
